Rochester Divorce Attorney Explains the Steps in a Divorce

Rochester Divorce AttorneyWhen someone comes to see me as a Rochester Divorce Attorney asking, “What’s the first step I have to take?” I often respond, “You’ve already taken the first step. You’re here in our office learning about your legal rights.” The second step is making the decision as to whether they want to proceed with the divorce. If they decide to proceed, the very next step is to sign and file certain required documents with the court, including an agreement between the client and the attorney with respect to payment of legal fees. A client statement of rights must also be signed and filed. Then, the divorce action actually starts with the filing of a summons in the county clerk’s office.
